Prof. Rui Aguiar, from the University of Aveiro, is already working at Uberlândia in the project Reconfigurable Architecture for Convergent Networks (A2RCON).
The A2RCON project aims to develop a reconfigurable network architecture optimized for future usage scenarios. By taking advantage of technologies such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), this network architecture will be optimized in order to offer an efficient support to video-based applications.
One of the main objectives the development of a functional prototype prototype that will allow the actual verification services for converged networks while maintaining proximity to 5G international trend of future networks. The project also counts with the collaboration of a Brazilian operator, Algar Telecom, for the experimental evaluation.
The A2RCON project is funded by CAPES, under the Foreign Visiting Professor (PVE) Program.
Rui L. Aguiar received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in 2001 from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He is currently a full professor at the University of Aveiro, being responsible for networking aspects. He is leading a research team at the Institute of Telecommunications, Aveiro, on future generation network architectures and sys- tems, and is now a research associate at Universidade Federal de Uberlandia.
His participation in European cooperative research is extensive, and he is currently involved in the 5G-PPP steering board.
